Aluminum Front Walkway Gate in Flagler Beach
Flagler Beach sits right on A1A with salt air moving over every yard on the barrier island side. That is exactly the environment where an aluminum gate earns its keep.

Why choose aluminum for a coastal Flagler Beach property?
If you live within a mile of the Atlantic on the Flagler Beach coast, salt is a factor whether you want it to be or not. It rides in on the breeze off the ocean, settles on every metal surface, and starts working on anything ferrous. A wrought iron gate will rust from the inside of the tubing out, no matter how many coats of paint you brush on. Aluminum does not corrode the same way. The material forms a thin oxide layer that stops the reaction dead, which is why you see aluminum used for boat hardware, coastal railings, and pool cages up and down the Florida coast. The powder coat finish on top of that is baked on at the factory and carries a lifetime manufacturer warranty. For a homeowner who did not want to be pulling a gate off its hinges to sand and refinish every couple of years, aluminum was the only material that made sense for this application.
How did we set the gate for a small walkway opening?
This install was a single aluminum walkway gate across a front entry path, not a full perimeter fence. Even for a one gate job the fundamentals do not change. The two hinge and latch posts still set 3 feet deep in concrete each. The gate itself is a factory welded aluminum panel with the same black powder coat finish. The self closing hinges are stainless steel with sealed bearings that will not seize up in the coastal environment. We measured the opening twice before ordering the gate leaf because a walkway gate that sits half an inch off level looks off from the street the moment you see it. When we set the posts we plumbed them with a full 4 foot level, waited for the concrete to firm up before hanging the leaf, and only then set the latch strike. On a small install the details are what carry the whole job.
What does the finished walkway gate add to the property?
The single project photo shows the gate closed across the front walkway with the home behind it. The aluminum reads as clean black against the light exterior of the home, the top of the gate carries a subtle scroll detail, and the gap between the leaf and the ground is even across the full width. Details like that are what separate a fence company from a handyman. Flagler Beach is a small town where people notice these things, especially in the neighborhoods running north and south of Wickline Park. The owner now has a defined front entry, a physical stop that keeps stray pets and door to door visitors from just walking up, and a piece of hardware that will look the same in five years as it does today. For fence work in this area our Flagler Beach fence installation page has more, and our aluminum fencing page covers material specs.
